Lisa Meyer, founder of Boss Beauties on creating more opportunities for women with NFTs

For the past 10 years, Lisa Mayer has been supporting the next generation of girls and women through her nonprofit, My Social Canvas. “Over the past 10 years, My Social Canvas has helped provide mentorship and career opportunities to girls of high school and college age around the world,” Mayer said. The team specifically aims to empower those who are at the forefront of technology, leadership and creativity.

Accordingly, My Social Canvas is building a global community of Gen Z girls and social entrepreneurs. The company has worked with global brands, companies, and inspirational mentors to host hack-a-thons, mentorship committees, and events. “We saw opportunities in the NFT space for women that seemed untapped,” she explained. “Boss Beauties have become a natural extension of the My Social Canvas mission, but with the goal of using NFTs to create more opportunities for women.”

Ultimately, Mayer Boss Beauties launched in September 2021. At the time, the NFTs cost 0.08 ETH and sold out within an hour. At the time of writing, the project is grounding at 0.68 ETH, having raised around $36 million in sales on OpenSea.

Boss Beauties’ success stories don’t just end with their sales numbers. In fact, since its launch, the project has built some great partnerships in space and has had some great achievements.

Boss Beauties: First NFT Project Shown at NYSE

Shortly after its launch, Boss Beauties made history as the first NFT to be offered on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). This is especially important given the history of NYSE. Founded in 1792, NYSE was initially Women are prohibited from trading and visiting Capacity.

These sentiments are at the core of the Boss Beauties collection, too. Needless to say, their debut on the New York Stock Exchange is a historic achievement in itself. Currently, seven Boss Beauties are listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Of these, six reside outside the historic Muriel Seibert conference room, which honors Seibert for becoming the first woman to hold a seat on the New York Stock Exchange.

The project has established a scholarship fund

As with My Social Canvas, Boss Beauties is committed to supporting the next generation of leaders and changemakers. For this, the project created a scholarship fund. During the first two months of the launch itself, the group raised more than $3 million to continue its mentoring program.

““NFTs have given us the ability to continue our mission,” Meyer said. “Since our initial release, 5% has been deferred to fund our mentorship program to help the next generation of women leaders.”

In addition, the project donated an additional 5% to the Fame Lady Squad team to support the launch of its initiatives to educate women in the NFT space. Besides, to celebrate International Day of the Girl on October 11, 2021, Boss Beauties auctioned 1/1 NFT. All proceeds from the sale went to an honorary scholarship in the name of Louise Jones, the youngest woman to hold a seat on the New York Stock Exchange.

This, in turn, will support women and girls in financing. The 1/1 NFT used in the auction is now on display outside the Muriel Siebert boardroom.

“Going forward, everything we do will help fund more mentorship programs and scholarships for women and girls,” she added. “This is what we have been doing for the past 10 years and will always be at the heart of Boss Beauties.”

Meet the Boss Beauties Role Models collection

In honor of International Women’s Day, Boss Beauties launched a new limited edition 1/1 of their NFT series called Boss Beauties Role Models in March. Created in collaboration with Cathy Hackle, a world-renowned Metaverse/Web 3 strategist, the collection celebrates some of the most iconic women around the world.

“This group includes inspirational and pioneering change-makers throughout history as well as in the modern world,” said Mayer. In all, there are 25 female models in the collection. This includes Amelia Earhart, Cleopatra, Frida Kahlo, Princess Diana, Rosa Parks, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Maya Angelou.

After exhibiting the collection in New York City, Boss Beauties auctioned their NFTs at OpenSea. A portion of the proceeds funded scholarships and mentorship programs for the project. Additionally, the team has partnered with “world-renowned brands” to “co-create life-changing opportunities for women and girls with us, which will help them design the jobs they love.”

What is the future of Boss Beauties?

Indeed, Boss Beauties offer collectors many facilities. This includes free access to mentorship events, free books through the Boss Beauties Book Club, and free NFTs, to name a few. There’s also the Boss Beauties Conference, a music and arts festival with inspiring talks by female leaders.

Furthermore, the collection will be printed by the Boss Beauties on special archival film and stored within the Arctic World Archive. “We have more exciting offers and partnerships coming up,” Meyer said. “Over the course of the next year, we plan to attract more female artists to work with us on the NFT groups, fund more scholarships for women, and bring more mentorship opportunities to the table.”

Mayer has a simple message for female artists aspiring to enter the NFT space – “Don’t wait to get started.”

“Currently, women represent only 16% of NFT artists,” she added. “Be true to who you are as an artist and start showing yourself there.”
